If you’ve experienced the thrill of flying the DJI Avata, you know just how powerful an FPV drone can be. While the Avata introduced the fun of first-person visual flying, the Avata 2 delivers an even more immersive experience. The DJI Avata 2 is a thrilling, one-of-a-kind FPV drone experience that offers stunning visuals, intuitive flight controls, and extended battery life. When paired with the new DJI Goggles 3 and DJI RC Motion 3, you can take to the skies like never before.

DJI Goggles 3

One of the most significant breakthroughs of the Avata 2 drone is the inclusion of the DJI Goggles 3, a pair of high-tech goggles that deliver an immersive flight experience like no other. The Goggles 3 offers a Real View PiP (Picture-inPicture), which allows you to see exactly what the Avata 2 sees as it flies through the sky. With DJI O4 ultra-low-latency video transmission and a range of up to 13 km, you’ll maintain smooth, clear visuals throughout your flight.

View the world through a micro-OLED high-definition display as you observe and control the drone’s movements using an interactive interface. You can even toggle the display between the interactive interface and a live view of your surroundings by double-tapping the right-side panel of the goggles. This allows you to take a quick peek at your real-world environment without removing the goggles, while the real-time flight footage remains displayed in the upper left corner of the screen.

The DJI Goggles 3 is built with low-pressure padding to make the goggles more comfortable to wear during flight. In the case of sudden changes in temperature or humidity, you can trigger a defogging feature with a single tap. This activates an internal fan that quickly circulates air to clear the lenses and ensure your vision is uninterrupted. The battery is also integrated with the headband, giving you a 3-hour max operating time without the need for messy cables. Lastly, the Goggles 3 supports a diopter adjustment from -6.0 D to +2.0 D, giving you the power to adjust the vision for greater clarity.

More Powerful Imaging Than Ever Before

While the Goggles 3 delivers an immersive visual experience, it’s the incredible imaging performance of the Avata 2 that really leaves viewers in awe. DJI’s newest Avata drone is a true upgrade from its predecessor, with an upgraded imaging system that captures clearer pictures and videos than ever before.

The Avata 2 captures incredible 4K HDR videos at 60fps, allowing you to film stunning videos while performing fast-moving, aerobatic maneuvers. Using the Goggles 3, you can adjust sharpness and noise reduction levels as needed to ensure crystal-clear clarity throughout every moment of your flight. The upgraded 1/1.3-inch image sensor expands the dynamic range of your footage, improving performance in low-light conditions and capturing 12 MP photos with perfect precision.

Part of what enables the DJI Avata 2 to capture smooth footage in such crystal clear detail is its powerful stabilization system. The RockSteady function keeps the drone stable to capture smooth, steady footage even at high speeds or in windy, tumultuous conditions.

HorizonSteady keeps the camera focused on the horizon even when the drone turns or sways during flight. Avata 2 offers a range of FOV options that expand your vision and capture more of the world in a single frame. Choose between 82° normal-angle, wide-angle, and 155° ultra-wide-angle FOV options to adjust to any scenario. With the optional 10-bit D-Log M Mode, you can capture richer details in both highlights and shadows, making post-production and color-grading a breeze.

DJI RC Motion 3

The Avata 2 achieves unparalleled flight performance by combining two distinct factors: stunning, immersive visuals and effortless, intuitive control. To that end, the DJI RC Motion 3 controller is the perfect companion to the Goggles 3. The RC Motion 3 allows even the most inexperienced pilots to master dazzling flips, drifts, and maneuvers. The remote controller is designed to be simple and easy to use, allowing you to perform dynamic flight maneuvers with the push of a button.

When using both the Goggles 3 and the RC Motion 3, you can control the Avata 2’s every move with the movement of your wrist and thumb. You can use the joystick to control the aircraft’s ascent, descent, and horizontal movement. With Easy ACRO, you can use the accelerator and joystick to perform flips, rolls, and drifts with the push of a button. The RC features a two-stop throttle design that allows you to lock the aircraft’s altitude and accelerate the aircraft either forward or in reverse. There’s also a lock button that will immediately initiate braking or hovering, allowing you to quickly respond in emergency situations.

With the Goggles 3, you can use the RC Motion 3 to control an AR cursor, allowing you to adjust camera settings and toggle certain functions on and off. The RC Motion 3 also has a button that allows you to switch between Normal and Sport modes, giving you greater control over your flight. When you’re finished with your flight, simply long-press the same button to trigger the Smart Return-to-Home function.

Immersive, Intuitive Flight Performance

The Avata 2 has a maximum flight time of 23 minutes, giving you greater flexibility to explore your surroundings and capture mind-blowing visuals. While this flight time might be shorter than some of DJI’s other drones, the PD fast-charging support allows you to quickly recharge your drone and resume your flight right away. The Avata 2 Two-Way Charging Hub also comes with a power accumulation feature that transfers residual power from other batteries to the one with the highest charge level, getting you back in the skies quicker than ever.

DJI O4 video transmission is another excellent feature that delivers incredible stability and safety throughout your flight. The drone is designed with two transmitters, four receivers, and four antennae, eliminating interference and ensuring uninterrupted footage. The drone features a maximum video transmission distance of up to 13 km, ultra-low latency as low as 24 ms, and a maximum transmission bitrate of 60Mbps. Together with high-definition 1080p/100fps image quality, you’re guaranteed to stay immersed in your flying experience every second of your flight.

Robust Safety Features

Flight performance is made even better with a range of powerful safety features. The DJI Avata 2 comes with a redesigned integrated propeller guard that is lighter and more agile than ever before. The RC Motion 3 allows you to bring the drone to an immediate stop when needed, and the Return-to-Home (RTH) function will automatically kick in in the event of a low battery or lost signal.

The Avata 2 is equipped with binocular fisheye sensors that improve the drone’s positioning capabilities beyond belief.

The drone has both downward and backward visual positioning abilities, giving you greater stability and safety in low-altitude or indoor flights.

The drone even comes with an optional Turtle Mode that will automatically flip the drone back into its takeoff position in the event that it flips upside down. This mode makes it easier to recover and get back to your flight as soon as possible.

More Flexible Post-Production

The DJI Avata 2 comes with 46GB of internal storage, which allows you to keep around 90 minutes of 1080p/60fps video. This should be more than enough room to store the footage of several flights before transferring the data for post-processing. With Wi-Fi connectivity, you can quickly download the files to your phone and begin working on editing and sharing your footage.

LightCut is an incredible tool for post-production, seamlessly integrating with DJI Avata 2 using Wi-Fi connectivity. If you prefer, you can use the LightCut app to preview the captured footage and perform edits without downloading the footage to your phone. This allows you to find and edit your best shots without needing to take up unnecessary space on your phone.

Once you’ve connected the device and imported your footage, the Sky VFX function allows you to add dynamic overlays, text animations, and other unique effects to make your footage more interactive and immersive. One-Tap Edit uses AI’s intelligent recognition of video types and themes to automatically find highlights from your videos and apply a range of optional templates. This allows you to add sound effects, color recovery, watermarks, and even end credits to your polished content. Whether you download the footage to your smartphone or perform editing through the Avata 2’s wireless connection, the LightCut app is the perfect tool for creating videos ready to post straight to social media.

DJI Avata Vs. Avata 2: How Do They Compare?

There’s no denying the DJI Avata 2 is an incredible step up from the Avata. But how exactly do the two drones compare? Visually, the Avata 2 comes with a 1/1.3” CMOS sensor that blows the Avata’s 1/1.7” sensor out of the water. It’s also capable of recording 4K/60fps HDR videos in comparison to the non-HDR 4K/60fps videos of the Avata. The 10-bit D-Log M Color Mode is a great improvement on the D-Cinelike Color Mode of the Avata, giving you greater clarity in color details.

As for flight performance, the Avata 2 is a clear improvement. The max flight time is 5 minutes longer, and the O4 video transmission offers clearer signals up to 3 km further than the O3+ video transmission of the Avata. The Avata 2 also provides both downward and backward visual positioning instead of just the downward visual positioning of the Avata. Additionally, the Avata 2 can store 26GB more data within the drone, and the High-Speed QuickTransfer function allows you to download footage much faster than the Avata.

One of the greatest upgrades, however, is the Easy ACRO function of the RC Motion 3. This feature makes flying the drone much simpler for novice pilots, giving you the ability to perform flips, rolls, and 180° drifts with just the push of a button. If you’re a new pilot or you simply enjoy being able to perform complicated maneuvers with ease, the Avata 2 is well worth the upgrade.
