"We're thrilled to be a part of Glendale's vibrant AAPI community," says museum founder Michael Matsuda, a 10th-degree black belt and renowned martial arts historian. "The Martial Arts History Museum celebrates the profound impact Asian cultures have had on the development of martial arts – from the samurai shaping Japan to Chinese martial arts defending the nation. But more than just kicks and punches, we celebrate the beauty and richness of Asian culture year-round."

Founded in 1999 by Matsuda, the museum began as a traveling exhibit before finding a home in Burbank for 14 years. In November 2023, it relocated to its current address at 201 N. Brand Blvd., B100, Glendale, CA 91203.

The museum offers a variety of engaging events for the community, including book signings, movie premieres, cultural celebrations, art exhibits, and even game nights.

"We're working closely with the city to put up a prominent sign soon," says Matsuda. "While we're still new in Glendale, we're already making a positive impact. We were one of the top five tourist attractions in Burbank, now we’re in Glendale. I can’t wait until we begin booking field trips for the local schools.”

Matsuda, a former graphic designer for Walt Disney Productions, designed the museum to be a fun and educational experience for all ages. "We want kids to be excited and learn something new," he says. "The museum is a fantastic place for families to explore together and for school field trips."
