Red Hat Joins the Linux Foundation’s Margo to Deliver Edge Interoperability for Industrial Automation Ecosystems

Red Hat collaborates with leaders in the industrial edge space to enhance interoperability through an open standard, reference implementation and comprehensive compliance testing toolkit

Red Hat, Inc., the world's leading provider of open source solutions, today announced that it has joined The Linux Foundation's Margo Initiative as a steering committee member to enhance interoperability in industrial automation environments. Supported by some of the largest global automation ecosystem providers, Margo defines the mechanisms for interoperability between edge applications, devices, workloads and orchestration software and plans to deliver interoperability through an open standard, reference implementation and comprehensive compliance testing toolkit.

Red Hat joins founding members ABB, Capgemini, Microsoft, Rockwell Automation, Schneider Electric and Siemens along with other like-minded organizations that are innovating in the industrial automation software space. Kelly Switt, senior director of intelligent edge global business development, will be Red Hat’s representative on the steering committee with the goal of collaborating to develop a comprehensive and effective interoperability standard intended to help customers achieve their innovation goals with greater speed and efficiency.

Margo’s open standard aims to bring much needed flexibility, simplicity and scalability to the industrial automation space, unlocking barriers to modernization in complex, multi-vendor environments and accelerating digital transformation for organizations of all sizes. The associated reference implementation and compliance test toolkit will be designed to deliver more seamless adoption and build trust in Margo’s interoperability promise.

Red Hat is committed to transforming the way systems and providers interoperate within the industrial automation ecosystem through open innovation and community collaboration. Collaborating on projects like The Margo Initiative and the Open Process Automation Forum to address industrial edge pain points is an important step in helping Red Hat customers and partners realize the full potential of technologies like AI, machine learning and advanced data analytics at the edge.
