Code42 Receives 2022 CSO50 Award from Foundry’s CSO

Security team recognized for innovative, automated security incident response to Insider Risk events

Code42, the Insider Risk Management leader, today announced it has been named a winner of a 2022 CSO50 Award from Foundry’s CSO. This prestigious honor recognizes 50 security projects and initiatives that demonstrate outstanding business value and thought leadership. Code42 will accept its award at the CSO50 Conference + Awards, to be held September 19-21, 2022, at the MGM National Harbor in Maryland.

The Code42 security team was recognized for its new incident-handling robot project, which automates response to Insider Risk and other security events. Traditionally, interactions between security teams and employees have been fraught with tension, resulting in employees often feeling as though security is watching and monitoring their every move. At the same time, security teams are under-resourced and automation via robots serves as a lifeline for many security operations teams. With this award-winning project, Code42’s security team built an incident-handling robot using Palo Alto Networks Cortex XSOAR as the automation platform and a Slack integration for the chat component of the project. The chatbot leverages Code42’s approach to empathetic investigations to create positive touchpoints between employees and the security team. As a result, trust between security teams and employees is improved, employees are more aware of security policies so security analysts can focus on more strategic cybersecurity work.

“Traditional security investigations focused on our end users are accusatory and put those being investigated immediately on the defensive,” said Jadee Hanson, CIO and CISO of Code42. “However, there’s a high likelihood that end user actions are innocent, careless or negligent – not malicious. When we take an empathetic approach to investigations, analysts consider the perspectives of their colleagues, which helps demonstrate trust between the two parties.”

“As the global business environment continues to change with new technologies and ways to connect with one another, new security challenges are surfacing each day that security leaders and organizations must deal with,” said Amy Bennett, executive editor of CSO. “The annual CSO50 and CSO Hall of Fame Awards give recognition to the leaders and teams that are establishing new solutions for dealing with the many current and emerging threats their organizations are confronted with. We are looking forward to giving the most standout teams and leaders the recognition they deserve at the upcoming event in September.”
