May at Morven: Garden Party, Programs, and More

PRINCETON, N.J. - April 25, 2022 - PRLog -- Morven Museum & Garden is pleased to present several upcoming programs and events related to the start of spring, our annual fundraiser Morven in May, and our latest exhibition, Ma Bell: The Mother of Invention in New Jersey.

Morven in May's Garden Party, our largest fundraiser of the year, will take place on Fri, May 6 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a weather date of Saturday, May 7. This annual tradition raises necessary funds allowing us to continue to provide illuminating exhibitions, educational programing, along with preserving this National Historic Landmark. Featured at the Garden Party will be a hearty grazing menu with a signature cocktail, live entertainment, and silent auction. Included items for the silent auction are: a Tour of Mount Vernon Garden's with J. Dean Norton, Director of Horticulture, Six Months of Floral Arrangements, Afternoon Tea at Boxwood Gardens, a Baxter Craftsman for the day, and more. The gift shop and museum will be open during the party. Wear your spring finest and garden friendly footwear.

On Sun, May 1 at 10:30 a.m., join New Jersey Audubon's Kristin Hock for a May Day Bird Walk. Kristin will take us all around Morven's gardens, including the parking lot and fringe areas, in search of birds and bird families, as well as other forms of wildlife. Tickets: $10 General Admission, $5 Morven Members.

Would you like more butterflies in your backyard garden? Join us for a Gardening for Butterflies & Historic Garden Stroll with Morven's Horticulturist Louise Senior on Tues, May 10 at 6:30 p.m. This informative and entertaining lecture and discussion will include plant recommendations, butterfly life cycle details, and more. Plan to spend time strolling Morven's historic gardens in the hour prior to the program. Doors to the Stockton Education Center will open at 6:00 p.m. Tickets: $10 General Admission, $5 Morven Members. This program is being held in collaboration with Princeton Public Library, which has a limited number of free tickets to this talk available for their cardholders.

On Tues, May 17 at 6:30 p.m., spend an evening discovering and discussing the 20th Century Black Scientific Renaissance at Bell Labs (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/20th-century-black-scientific-renaissance-at-bell-labs-tickets-267854960397). Clyde Bethea, Marian Croak, William Massey and James West will share stories of their years at Bell Labs and their outstanding achievements and impressive innovations during their scientific and technological careers. Doors open for the in-person event in the Stockton Education Center at 6:00 p.m. with light refreshments available. The Museum will be open from 5:00 to 6:15 p.m. where you may meet Curators of the Ma Bell exhibition, Elizabeth Allan and Jesse Gordon, in the galleries. In-person tickets: $20 General Admission, $15 Morven Members. Virtual tickets: $10 General Admission, $5 for Morven Members. Zoom link will be provided on the day of the program along with a recording afterwards.

On Mon, May 23 through Weds, May 25 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., come to Morven for Plein Air Painting with Raymond Brown (https://public.artscouncilofprinceton.org/public/classdirect/2463), a collaboration with the Arts Council of Princeton. Participants will discover the quality of natural light (and how it changes during the session), explore how color can define forms, learn how to represent natural colors, and experiment with brush strokes and creating textures. All levels welcome. Tickets: $215. Registration is required.
