Southern Unity Project (SUP) is partnering with Petco and the Madison Police Department to host a pet parade at Old Trace Park on the Reservoir in Ridgeland, Mississippi, October 10, 2021, in support of Webster Animal Shelter.
MADISON, Miss. & RIDGELAND, Miss. - Sept. 20, 2021 - PRLog -- The family-friendly event will take place from 2 to 6 p.m. The pet parade is scheduled to kick off at 2:30 p.m. featuring several dogs from Madison's Webster Animal Shelter who are ready to be adopted to their forever home. All proceeds of the event will go to the no-kill shelter in support of their important mission to place rescued pets in safe, loving adoptive homes, as well as the Southern Unity Project nonprofit organization.
"Events like this help raise awareness of issues, like the difference between no-kill and kill shelters, that otherwise might not garner the support needed to maintain a nonprofit organization," said Kate Mangan, SUP founder and executive director. "SUP itself is a Madison-based nonprofit focused on improving LBGTQ+ mental health through advocacy and community service. We hope this will be a successful event for Webster and the local community, as well as our members."
Attendees are invited to bring their pets dressed in their finest parade attire. After the parade, a quiet zone will be available to allow adoptees to get acquainted with potential adopters and their pets, if applicable.
Live music will be provided by the Patrick Harkins Band, courtesy of Fondren Guitars. There will also be face painting and several local food trucks on site. Your furry friends will have the opportunity to relax in wading pools and will receive complimentary pup cups, hygiene products, and minor grooming services such as nail trimmings provided by PETCO. Other event sponsors include Philter Studio and the Human Rights Campaign.

"Southern Unity Project is excited to host this event to support our friends at Webster Animal Shelter," said Mangan. "We're grateful for the overwhelming support we have received to help plan this event and look forward to introducing our nonprofit to Madison County."
