On or around May 29, 2023, Talcott confirmed that an unauthorized actor gained access to its customers' sensitive information. The unauthorized access occurred through the use of the MOVEit transfer tool used by Talcott's third-party service provider, PBI Research Services. Through a subsequent investigation, Talcott determined that the data accessed by cybercriminals included the personal identifying information of approximately 552,821 individuals, including Social Security Numbers.
