Pele’s Children, the highly anticipated sequel to Roberta Summers' acclaimed novel Pele’s Realm, is here to transport us to experience a gripping crime thriller set against Hawaii's unique and powerful landscape. With elements of Hawaiian mythology woven throughout, Pele’s Children brings a fresh and thrilling twist to the crime genre, offering a high-stakes adventure where survival, mystery, and ancient legends intertwine.
The novel follows Maggie and John Kovac as they once again face off with the Hawaiian Mafia, known as "The Company." Having narrowly escaped its reach in Pele’s Realm, the couple finds themselves entangled in an even deadlier conflict. Maggie is devastated when she learns of John’s death, reportedly killed and lost to the fiery depths of the Kilauea Caldera. But fate—or perhaps something far more ancient—intervenes. In a miraculous twist, the Fire Goddess Pele herself saves John, though he’s left with no memory of his identity or his past. His survival is a mystery, but The Company soon learns the truth and is determined to use Maggie as bait to flush him out.
Summers’ portrayal of Hawaii is vivid, and she brings the landscape to life as a character in its own right, giving readers a front-row seat to the dramatic contrasts of Hawaii’s natural beauty and its dark, organized crime underworld. The novel’s careful integration of Hawaiian mythology adds depth and authenticity, allowing readers to experience Hawaii’s culture and legends firsthand. Pele’s role in the story gives the novel a mystical quality that heightens both the suspense and the emotional stakes, as her unpredictable influence shapes the fate of Maggie and John.
Pele’s Children captures the danger, beauty, and mystery of Hawaii while taking readers on an unforgettable journey through its lush jungles, volcanic landscapes, and cultural heritage. Maggie’s resilience is a testament to human strength, while John’s fragmented memory and struggle for survival add a unique psychological tension. Together, their journey explores themes of love, loyalty, and the lengths people will go to protect those they care about.
With Pele’s Children, Roberta Summers delivers a pulse-pounding thriller that transcends genres, blending crime, mythology, and adventure in a way that is both captivating and thought-provoking. This book is a must-read for anyone who loves thrilling narratives with an infusion of cultural mythology and a deep sense of place. Pele’s Children is now available in bookstores and online.
