Rocketman to Councilman: Jerred Price, A Memphis-Based Artist Lives Life of Public Service

By: Get News
"Be seen serving, don't serve to be seen," says the former commissioner, volunteer, and Memphis City Council Candidate.

Jerred moved to Memphis in 2012. Being from Arkansas and visiting Memphis quite often, Jerred saw the Memphis bridge as his "Statue of Liberty" for the opportunity for growth: both musically and to fulfill his desire to make an impact on his community.

Jerred Price, known popularly as "Almost Elton John," has dedicated his life to public service since he arrived in Bluff City. His award-winning show/performance started in Memphis in 2014 and has grown to become a huge hit show that travels throughout the USA! Voted one of the best live acts in Memphis in 2021 & 2022 via the Memphis Most Awards, fans have flocked by the thousands to see his shows. Jerred has had the honor of meeting and establishing a friendship with his icon, Sir Elton John, whom he finally got to meet in 2014 after a lifetime of admiring from afar. He has been to 60+ shows, and the two have often visited backstage to chat about music, life, and Memphis. But in addition to being a hit musician playing his tribute show, he has also established a track record of being a community leader, and fierce advocate for his city. Price supports and volunteers with numerous organizations, including Friends for Life, Mystic Krewe of Pegasus, Downtown Neighborhood Association, Memphis Medical District Collaborative, the Elton John AIDS Foundation, and many others.

In 2018, Jerred Price was appointed by the Mayor of Memphis to serve as Commissioner for Memphis City Beautiful and was elected President of the Downtown Neighborhood Association (DNA) in 2020. Jerred has led several community beautification projects, clean-ups, and volunteer projects. In 2019, he made Tennessee state history by installing the state's first rainbow crosswalk to recognize the LGBTQ community and show that Memphis is a city where all are welcome. After his term as President of the Downtown Neighborhood Association ended in February 2022, Price decided to continue his passion for public service.

In October 2022, he launched his Candidacy for Memphis City Council District 8, Position 3.

"Be seen serving, don't serve to be seen is a motto I live by," says Jerred Price.

Jerred hopes to continue to play his music even after he is elected in October of 2023. His hopes? To go from Memphis' ROCKETMAN to their COUNCILMAN.
