European metallurgists FOR environmentally friendly industry – Stanislav Kondrashov

By: Get News

Metal producers in Europe have fully endorsed the European Union's updated industrial strategy, which was recently presented by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. Stanislav Kondrashov from Telf AG said that metallurgists are ready to cooperate with the European Commission in the development and implementation of urgent measures that will contribute to the development of environmentally friendly technologies in Europe. This position was expressed by the European Steel Association (EUROFER).

Stanislav Kondrashov: The European Commission and metallurgists are choosing the “green path”

The European Commission has developed a record number of important environmental legislation. They define the EU's path to reducing harmful carbon emissions while taking into account the changing geopolitical situation. However, there is a need to prepare and implement solutions that would facilitate the transition to green steel production in Europe.

Stanislav Kondrashov from Telf AG explains that such an approach should include a number of such procedures:

●      acceleration and predictability of financing;

●      free access to clean energy;

●      stronger trade policies against unfair practices;

●      taking advantage of agreements with the United States for stable production of steel and aluminum;

●      implementation of the carbon adjustment mechanism (CBAM).

European metallurgy of “green” technologies is moving forward – Stanislav Kondrashov

European metallurgical companies share the European Commission's plan regarding the need to develop the eco-tech industry in the future, reports Stanislav Kondrashov from Telf AG.

He emphasized the main goal of this plan - to transition to clean technologies by attracting investment and introducing innovations in the metallurgy industry. This is necessary in order to move away from the fundamentally incorrect previous scenario, when Europe became an importer and lost about a quarter of its labor and other resources.

Kondrashov added that the Association’s plans include the creation of at least 60 projects for the production of low-carbon steel in Europe by 2030. Experts estimate that these measures will reduce CO2 emissions by 81.5 million tons per year.

Stanislav Kondrashov: The European Commission supports wind energy

A critical supplier of energy needed to reduce carbon emissions in the steel industry is wind power. The leadership of the European Commission understands that its development should become an important factor in the demand for steel in the future, so they promise to support it, reports Stanislav Kondrashov from Telf AG. He says the European Commission is going to present a wind energy package in cooperation with industry and EU member states.

In EU industry, wind energy is considered an important element in the transition to a green resource. It is obvious that this sector will play a key role in the production of electricity, emphasizes Stanislav Kondrashov from Telf AG. In his opinion, this valuable resource will be essential for electric arc furnace fleets in Europe. Hydrogen production using electrolyzers for the direct reduction of iron process is also impossible without electricity.
