University of Phoenix Professional Development Hosts Webinar on How Organizations Can Integrate Traditional Titles With a Skills-Oriented Approach

May 14 webinar with Chief Learning Officer helps employers with navigating a skills-based shift to maximize talent potential and organizational agility

University of Phoenix Professional Development announces that it will lead a Chief Learning Officer (CLO) webinar for workplace leaders on navigating a skills-based transition in a hybrid approach that maximizes talent potential and organizational agility. The webinar, “Balancing Titles and Skills: Exploring a Hybrid Approach to Skills-Based Structures,” features a panel of learning and development leaders providing insights on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at 2:00pm ET. Expert panelists include Savern Varnardo, corporate director of Learning and Development at Primoris Services Corporation, a leading specialty contractor in critical infrastructure services across the utility, energy and renewables markets in the US and Canada, Captain Timothy Hammond, Chief of Training/Deputy Chief Learning Officer at the U.S. Coast Guard Force Readiness Command, and Barbara Schifano, senior director, Learning and Development at University of Phoenix. Suzanne Bay, vice president, Strategy, at University of Phoenix will moderate the panel discussion.

According to University of Phoenix Career Institute® 2023 Career Optimism Index® study, 70% of Americans say if their company gave them more opportunities to apply new skills, they would be more likely to stay throughout their career. A separate study by Deloitte found that 77% of business executive respondents agree their organization should help their workers become more employable with relevant skills.

“The workforce landscape is rapidly evolving, demanding new skills for an effective workforce,” states Bay. “Many organizations are considering skills-based hiring to stay competitive and attract diverse talent. However, transitioning to this approach involves complex changes across various systems and stakeholders. Join us to explore the challenges and strategies to start the transition to skills-based hiring.”

This webinar is designed to benefit business operations by exploring a journey of traditional hierarchical structures and skills-based frameworks and discovering what a transition to a hybrid approach might look like. The panel discussion will touch on the benefits — and challenges — of a skills-based framework, as well as the intricacies of pursuing a hybrid environment that emphasizes both skills and titles. Attendees will have the opportunity to network with peers and exchange ideas, fostering collaboration and learning within the professional community.

In the webinar, workplace leadership learners will:

  • Receive practical guidance and actionable steps for navigating a transition to a hybrid approach that maximizes talent potential and organizational agility.
  • Learn key considerations and steps involved in a hybrid approach of job titles and skills.
  • Learn about the role of L&D professionals as catalysts for implementing and sustaining a skills-based structure.
