OneLegacy On Track for Another Record Breaking Year

The First Half of 2023 Shows a Significant Increase in Donors, Organs Transplanted, Corneas and Tissues Recovered by OneLegacy in Its Service Area

OneLegacy announced today that they are on pace for significant increases in the number of donors and organs, tissues and corneas recovered over the first six months of 2023. The not-for-profit donor recovery organization serving seven counties in Southern California had a total of 378 organ donors in the first half of the year, which puts OneLegacy on track for 756 donors for 2023, a 17% increase compared to 2022.

OneLegacy is also on track for an increase in the number of organs transplanted in 2023, reporting 940 organs transplanted from January 1 to June 30, 2023, with an estimated 1,880 organs transplanted by the end of the year. This represents a 15% increase from 1,629 organs transplanted in 2022. With this significant 2023 performance growth, OneLegacy is now among the higher performing OPOs in the nation.

“We are incredibly grateful to the patient care staff of the 200+ hospitals we serve for working closely with OneLegacy to ensure that every potential donor is referred to OneLegacy. Their timely referrals allow our specialists to evaluate every potential donor and collaborate with hospital staff and families to enable lifesaving transplants,” said Prasad Garimella, CEO of OneLegacy. “We are especially grateful to the donors and their families, who said ‘YES’ to donation and who will see their loved ones live on in others through the power of organ, eye and tissue donation.”

The increase in the number of organ donors and transplanted organs in the first six months of 2023 is part of a 10-year trend for OneLegacy, that most recently has been dramatically enhanced by the recent opening of a second transplant donor recovery center in Azusa, Calif. In addition to these efforts, OneLegacy has expanded its public education program, by engaging with influencers, stakeholders, and community members from diverse communities to inspire everyone to Donate Life and help those across their communities, who are desperately awaiting lifesaving and healing transplants.

OneLegacy is also on track to recover 2,100 tissue donors in 2023, an 18% increase over 2022, as well as increasing the number of cornea donors to 1,410 in 2023, a 31% increase.

“We are grateful to see how our efforts have translated into more donors, organs, tissues, and corneas transplanted to help those in need across our communities, and we look forward to saving and healing more lives in the next six months,” said Garimella.
