University of Phoenix Alumni Chapters Unite for Volunteer Week

Event to include twelve alumni chapters working to support local nonprofits and benefit communities

University of Phoenix is pleased to announce "Alumni Chapters United: One Week, Endless Impact," a special initiative where alumni chapters across the country will join forces to make a positive difference in their communities by volunteering to support local nonprofit organizations. The week-long event is scheduled to take place from Aug. 27 – Sept. 3, 2023, with twelve University of Phoenix alumni chapters hosting volunteer events during the weeklong initiative.

"We always say, ‘University of Phoenix is not just a university; we are a community,’ and our local alumni chapters are often at the center of their communities. They prove this to us time and time again, and we are so pleased to support them during this special week of service,” said Chris Celauro, Director of Alumni Experience for the University of Phoenix. "The grit and determination our alumni show, having graduated college as working adults, transfers into dedication they have for their communities. We are in awe of local alumni chapters and their ability to mobilize—and give back.”

This event is an extension of the University's longstanding commitment to improving the lives of its students and producing graduates who are well-educated professionals equipped to make a positive impact in their communities. Alumni-led, each chapter participating in the event selected a cause or nonprofit to support during the week to help meet a pressing local need.

Marti Gaiter, University of Phoenix alumni chapter president and volunteer coordinator is working with the Oregon chapter to put together kits with critical supplies for the nonprofit organization Outside In which is dedicated to assisting homeless teenagers. Gaiter shared,As a 20-year alumnus of the University of Phoenix, I am proud to be part of a community that values service. This volunteer week allows our chapter members to unite, as Oregonians do, in communities all over the state. Our natural desire to find ways to help our neighbors gives us a solid collective impact and shows the world what one chapter can do when we come together for a significant cause.”

Alumni Chapter Vice President Barbara Smith, who is coordinating a beautification event to benefit Willing Warriors, says, "I am honored to participate in 'Alumni Chapters United.' Giving back to the community has always been important to me and knowing that I am doing it alongside my fellow alumni for the benefit of our veterans and their families makes it even more special. Together, we can create positive change and inspire others to join us in making a difference."

The University of Phoenix is renowned for its strong alumni network with more than one million members. The alumni network hosts in-person and virtual events throughout the year to support professional development, networking and community engagement.
