Pennsylvania American Water and Upper Pottsgrove Township Invite Customers to Participate in Telephonic Public Input Hearing on Wastewater System Acquisition

Current and potential future customers can provide input on the company’s application to acquire the system; To participate, customers must register by 10 a.m. June 1

Pennsylvania American Water and Upper Pottsgrove Township will join the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) to hear public comment on Pennsylvania American Water’s recent application to acquire the wastewater system assets of Upper Pottsgrove, which serve approximately 1,500 wastewater customers in Montgomery and Berks counties. Pennsylvania American Water is the water provider in the neighboring Royersford and Glen Alsace areas and is established in the community as a trusted local utility service provider.

According to Township officials, the wastewater system sale agreed upon in April 2020 is important for the Township to secure important resources for the community and be relieved of the financial burden of upgrading the aging wastewater system to meet more rigorous regulations. Additional details about the proposed acquisition and potential future rate impact were included in a notice mailed to all Pennsylvania American Water customers and all current Upper Pottsgrove customers in March and April 2021.

The public input hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at 6 p.m. using a telephone conference call platform.

If you wish to testify at the telephonic public input hearing, please pre-register by 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 1, 2021. If you do not pre-register, you may not be able to testify. Individuals will testify in the order in which they pre-register. You may pre-register by email or by phone.

To pre-register by email, please email Judge Watson’s legal assistant, Nick Miskanic, at nmiskanic@pa.gov, and provide: (1) your first and last name, (2) the date and time of the session at which you wish to testify, (3) the phone number you will be using to call into the public input hearing, (4) the topic of your testimony, and (5) if you require an interpreter to participate in the hearing, the language of the interpreter.

To pre-register by phone, please call Judge Watson’s office at 412-565-3550 and leave a message providing: (1) your first and last name, (2) the date and time of the session at which you wish to testify, (3) the phone number you will be using to call into the public input hearing, (4) a phone number where you can be reached prior to the hearing if we need to contact you, (5) your email address, if you have one, so we can send you a confirmation email, (6) the topic of your testimony, and (7) if you require an interpreter to participate in the hearing, the language of the interpreter.

Requests for Interpreters: If you require an interpreter, please pre-register as soon as possible. If you register too close to the hearing date, we may not have enough time to arrange for an interpreter. If you request an interpreter, we will make every reasonable effort to have one present.

If you need assistance pre-registering to testify, you may have someone register for you, but they will need to provide us all the required information listed above. Additionally, if more than one person in your household would like to testify, one person may pre-register for other individuals in the same household, but we will need the required information for each individual.

If you do not wish to testify but want to listen to the public input hearing(s), you do not need to pre-register. You can simply call into the public input hearing(s) using the bridge number and PIN provided above.

The deadline for signing up for the public input hearing is 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 1, 2021.

If you intend to offer any exhibits at the public input hearing, you must email your proposed exhibit(s) to Judge Watson at jeffwatson@pa.gov and Nick Miskanic, Legal Assistant at nmiskanic@pa.gov by Wednesday, May 26, 2021. In your email to Judge Watson you must copy all individuals designated as “active parties” in the attached parties’ list. Failure to comply with these instructions may result in you not being allowed to present your proposed exhibit(s).
