Thompson Studios 125: Harlem’s Thriving Black-Owned Multimedia Production Studio

Omar Thompson’s “Thompson Studios 125”, a black-owned multimedia production studio in the heart of Harlem, brings a much-needed artistic renaissance to the historic community in tough times.

Harlem's first multimedia production studio, Thompson Studios 125, is making waves in the community. The black-owned studio has survived the pandemic and is thriving during an economic downturn, thanks to its founder Omar Thompson, a standup comedian and actor who returned to the neighborhood where he grew up to open the studio.

Omar, who recently appeared on HBO/MAX's "That Damn Michael Che" and Showtime's "Flatbush Misdemeanors," is a celebrity who gives back to his community while showcasing his talent on TV shows and film. The studio was opened on February 2, 2022, funded by his comedy and acting career. Along with the financial support of friends and family. It's extremely rare for someone raised in Harlem to own a business on 125th Street which some regard as the black Times Square. Owning a business on such a historic street in New York City is no small feat and has inspired countless other people to follow their own dreams of entrepreneurship.

Thompson Studios 125 is over 2,000 square feet and is a second-floor walk-up. Located in the heart of 125th Street, neighboring businesses include major corporations like Nike, Whole Foods, Starbucks, Victor Secrets, and the legendary Apollo Theater. The studio houses a podcast studio, professional photography studio, production studio, live standup comedy shows, music events, and community events.

Thompson Studios 125 offers a podcast studio, professional photography studio, and production studio, as well as live standup comedy shows, music events, and community events. Omar's mission is to reinvigorate the artistic legacy of Harlem's past by introducing music, dance, art, fashion, comedy, and film in a safe and inclusive environment that nurtures and ignites the creative passions of this historic community.

Dayanara Hernandez, from Promising A Better Future, expressed, "This is what was missing in Harlem." J Prince, the Young CEO LLC, added, "I'm glad I don't have to go downtown anymore to record my podcast because Omar is right here." Thompson shared, "Harlem is my home. It's where my roots are, and it's where my heart is. I'm proud to have a business here that serves my community."

Omar also runs New Harlem Renaissance, a Non-Profit Organization with the motto "Let’s bring Harlem back," aimed at providing access to arts and culture to Harlem's lower socio-economic residents of all ages at little to no cost. N.H.R. is committed to helping its inhabitants showcase their unique artistic expression and develop entrepreneurship skills through their four to six-week programs, which teach various art forms and core principles of contracts, monetization, and professionalism.

Omar Thompson inspires his community with Thompson Studios 125 and New Harlem Renaissance. His dedication to the arts and giving back to Harlem is changing lives and paving the way for future generations to discover their creative passions.
