The Baker Hughes Foundation Contributes $100,000 to Support Nature-Based Climate Solutions in the US

DESCRIPTION:

HOUSTON, June 2, 2021 /3BL Media/ – The Baker Hughes Foundation has announced a $100,000 grant to the American Forest Foundation (AFF) in support of its Family Forest Carbon Program (FFCP). The funds will help expand the FFCP, which will enable small landowners in Pennsylvania and across the Central Appalachians to improve their forest practices and verify the carbon benefits of improved forest management on their land.

Launched by AFF, FFCP is a credible and unique program providing inclusive opportunities for landowners to participate in forest carbon projects and transition to long-term sustainable management. The FFCP partners with family and individual landowners with small forest holdings to manage their forests in ways that help the planet—resulting in increased carbon sequestration and storage, as well as improved wildlife habitat and forest resiliency. The program also helps landowners measure and verify those emissions reductions so they can be marketed as carbon credits.

The FFCP’s goal is to engage 20% of the family-owned acres across the U.S. in sequestering and storing as much as two gigatons of carbon dioxide through the end of the century, aligning with the Baker Hughes Foundation's goal of promoting nature-based climate solutions and biodiversity. The Baker Hughes Foundation has committed $1 million to environmental causes over the next year, and the AFF grant is an important step in meeting that pledge.

“We are committed to research, innovation and sustainble technologies to promote the low-carbon economy, and nature-based climate solutions have an important role to play,” said Russell Wilkerson, chief corporate affairs officer at Baker Hughes. “Baker Hughes is proud to help the Family Forest Carbon Program fulfill its mission of helping small landowners improve their forest practices and participate in a lower-carbon future.”
