ITEM 8.01             Other Events.

White Mountains Insurance Group, Ltd. today announced that John J. Byrne has been elected Chairman of its Board of Directors. Mr. Byrne replaces George J. Gillespie, III, who remains a Director. Mr. Gillespie replaced Mr. Byrne as Chairman in November 2003.
