This week at ConExpo Link-Belt Cranes is showcasing a revolutionary product that has the potential to change the industry – an auxiliary power unit (APU) designed for their Pulse 2.0 cab used on 85|RT rough terrain cranes. The battery powered APU will allow fleet owners and crane operators alike to relax in comfort without having their engine running at idle, satisfying customer demand according to Kelly Fiechter of Link-Belt’s product management team. Experience this game changer firsthand with the prototype displayed all week at ConExpo.

By combining telematics data and advanced technology, Fiechter presented a novel solution to decrease rough-terrain crane engine idling: the Auxiliary Power Unit (APU). This APU uses lithium batteries to power HVAC systems while allowing the diesel engines time off. As a result, fuel efficiency increases along with fewer emissions, less noise pollution – all leading towards greater longevity on each machine. Recent developments in this space have positioned the APU to be a win win for everyone involved.

This will be the tech’s first chance to steal the show, with a large crowd and the surging interest that comes along every year at the large industry shows.

Link-Belt’s Advanced Power Unit (APU) keeps the cab comfortable and powers all of the Pulse 2.0 control system features, including its camera system, LMI System and touchscreen controls – even when engine is off! While running, diesel engine takes over as power supply while simultaneously keeping APU battery charged; plus 85|RT auto idle feature provides continuous comfort for operators. Get your chance to see this patent-pending prototype at ConExpo 2023.
