Ambassador Andrew Young joins other Civil Rights Leaders to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with unveiling of new statue

--News Direct--

On April 1, 2023, Ambassador Andrew Young will join the King Center and other Civil Rights leaders for the unveiling of a new Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. statue, depicting his “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop” speech. The statue unveiling will begin with a peace walk to honor Dr. King’s legacy of peace and unity, just ahead of the 55th Anniversary of his assassination.

Thousands of people are expected to gather in Atlanta for the peace walk and statue unveiling, which is led by World Peace Revival, a movement with the mission to promote peace and unity through interfaith prayer, acts of kindness, and storytelling.

Ambassador Andrew Young, family members of Dr. King, Atlanta’s mayor and other legends will be part of the day’s events. In addition to the peace walk and statue unveiling, the World Peace Revival Movement will present the inaugural World Peace Revival Legacy Award.

The award, presented by Ambassador Young, will be passed to the next generation of Dr. King’s Beloved Community to further his mission of peace and nonviolence. Nine exemplary recipients who personify these ideals and have showcased them in their dedication and commitment to the community will receive the prestigious award.

Here’s a look at the day’s agenda:

9:30 a.m. - Gates open at Home Depot Backyard at Mercedes Benz Stadium

10:45 a.m. - Opening Remarks by Mayor Andre Dickens and Prayer at Home Depot Backyard

11:00 a.m. - Peace Walk to Rodney Cook Sr. Peace Park

12:15 p.m. - Greeting and Speakers at Rodney Cook Sr. Peace Park

12:30 p.m. - World Peace Revival Legacy Award

1:00 p.m. - Unveiling of Dr. King’s “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop” statue

The statue will remain in the Rodney Cook Sr. Peace Park in Atlanta’s Historic Vine City, where it will join 18 other statues representing Georgia’s Peace icons of the last 300 years.

The statue is being commissioned by the National Monuments Foundation, Clyde and Sandra Strickland, Tim Minard, Dame Didi Wong, and The Minard Wong Foundation. Minard, Wong, and The Minard Wong Foundation are also sponsoring the statue’s India granite pedestal.

The following individuals will be available for interviews on the day of the walk: Ambassador Andrew Young, Mayor Andre Dickens, Rich McCormick (recipient of Legacy Award), Dr. Calvin Watts (recipient of Legacy Award), King Randall, Tim Minard, and Dame Didi Wong.

World Peace Revival (WPR) is a movement of prayer, kindness, and unity inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., that promotes world peace. With initiatives like #BillionPrayers, WPR aims to turn division into unity, inspire peace, and remind the world of the power of prayer and kindness.
