Carvery Kitchen: A Beloved Local Deli Bids Farewell, but Hints at a New Beginning

By: Get News
After nearly a decade of serving the Los Angeles community, Carvery Kitchen, the beloved deli founded by friends Diana Brigitt and Kathy Panchenko, will close this month. Nestled in a Kosher neighborhood that wasn’t entirely supportive due to the deli’s non-Kosher menu, Carvery Kitchen faced an uphill battle. Despite this challenge, the deli carved out a niche with its commitment to quality, customer service, and memorable catering experiences.

Over the years, Carvery Kitchen has become a local favorite, known for its delicious sandwiches and warm atmosphere. The deli's reputation extended beyond the neighborhood, attracting large catering clients like Netflix and TikTok. The catering arm of the business was a significant part of its success, with rave reviews coming from small events and large corporate gatherings.

However, the realities of doing business in California, particularly in the challenging Los Angeles restaurant scene, have taken their toll. The high cost of living and rising operational expenses have led to the closure of many cherished local establishments. Carvery Kitchen now joins a growing list of restaurants forced to shutter their doors in Los Angeles, including iconic names like Sweet Lady Jane and Langer's Deli, both of which have recently struggled in the current economic climate.

In a heartfelt statement, the co-founders shared their emotions: "This was an adventure we will never forget, but the time for change has arrived. It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Carvery Kitchen and thank it for all its daily lessons and, most of all, the talented people we have had the pleasure to work with along the way. The team that ran this deli day in and day out will be forever in our hearts, and we look forward to the next chapter in our culinary journey."

While Carvery Kitchen's physical location will close, the business's spirit lives on. In an effort to keep a skeleton crew employed, Carvery Kitchen will continue to take large catering orders as it prepares for a possible relocation. This pivot reflects the resilience and adaptability that have been hallmarks of the business since its inception.

The closure of Carvery Kitchen is not just a loss for the neighborhood but also a reminder of the broader challenges facing small businesses in California. The state's high taxes, stringent regulations, and soaring rent prices have made it increasingly difficult for family-owned businesses to thrive. Yet, amidst these challenges, Carvery Kitchen’s story is one of hope, determination, and the possibility of a new chapter waiting just around the corner.

As the curtains close on this beloved deli, the Los Angeles community waits for what’s next from Diana Brigitt and Kathy Panchenko. Their journey is far from over, and the next act promises to be just as flavorful and inspiring as the last."
