I think as were rolling out 5G the first impact were going to see is a dramatic improvement in speed and speed and reliability, so applications that take advantage of that early on will flourish. Well probably see more super high definition video and video experimentation and things like video conferencing. Its great for things like gaming and virtual reality and augmented reality are going to be right on the heels of the early days of the rollout.
Sprint has a treasure trove of 2.5 GHz spectrum and its particularly good for 5G because it sits in the perfect balance of speed and capacity and propagation, or distance and coverage. Were very excited about deploying 5G on our 2.5 spectrum and well be using Massive MIMO as the radio technology. This is fantastic because its a tremendous expansion of capacity compared to our current radios it has 128 antennas vs todays 16 antennas and we can deploy these radios to serve both 4G as well as 5G. This means our existing customer base will experience tremendous improvement in network performance as well as customers that are new buying 5G devices.
The announcement of New T-Mobile in the near term doesnt change anything for Sprint. We are forging ahead with our plan to deploy 5G in first half 2019 on our 2.5 spectrum using Massive MIMO and we have a very aggressive rollout plan that were excited that brings true mobile devices on 5G. So nothing changes there. The Sprint plan based on our 2.5 spectrum will allow us to deploy a very competitive 5G network in the United States. What it doesnt do is it doesnt allow the US to have the best 5G network in the world. The difference between 5G and previous generations is that you have to have a large amount of spectrum at high band, mid band and low band. The New T-Mobile is going to have the assets to really build an end to end 5G network that serves all use cases, all applications, and all geographies so all Americans can get the benefits of 5G sooner on a better network and thats really the difference. Its kind of going from really good to really great in the New T-Mobile.
The key message is excitement around what 5G is going to do for the industry but also an obligation that we have. The US created a massive economic boom when the carriers invested early and deployed 4G. That had a great impact on innovation and growth in the U.S. and job creation. The scary thing is that technologies cycles changes so fast that were now facing a double down. We have to do it again. Youre not guaranteed that kind of leadership forever just because youve delivered a great 4G network. So in many ways the future of American innovation, American entrepreneurship and the future economic growth engine is dependent on us delivering the worlds best 5G networks.
