On August 1, 2005, Pioneer Natural Resources Company (the "Company") issued
a news release that is attached hereto as exhibit 99.1. In the news release, the
Company announced that its Alaska subsidiary has signed an agreement with
ConocoPhillips Alaska to acquire a 10 percent working interest and an option to
acquire an additional 40 percent working interest in, and potentially assume
operatorship of, the Cosmopolitan Unit located offshore in the Cook Inlet.
